    1. The pie chart shows the amount of money Jessica spent on the different items on her trip.

The amount of money Jessica spent on the different items on her trip is also represented by the bar graph below. The bar for the amount of money spent on shopping has not been drawn.

How much did Jessica spend on shopping?

From the pie chart, we can see that food portion has a right angle which means it is a quarter circle and it takes up 25% of the total spending.

From the bar graph, the amount spend on food is $800. From this information, we can derive that total spending would be $800 x 4 = $3200

In addition, we can see that spending for Hotel, Food and Airfare adds up to $500 + $800 + $500 = $1800

We can calculate that Shopping would be $3200 – $1800 = $1400.

2. Three points are drawn on a square grid below.

Eve is standing within the grid. She stands at a location north-west of X and north of Y. In what direction is Z from Eve?

We refer to the figure on the above right that north-west is to the top and left of X. From the question, we derive that Eve could be standing at either of the 2 blue spots on the grid. It fulfils the description of being north-west of X and north of Y.

With reference from the compass figure on the above right, we can see that Z is south-west of the 2 possible spots where Eve is standing.

Thus Z is south-west from Eve.
