Primary

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) follows the inquiry learning philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB). The IB PYP is a framework for international education designed to foster the development of the whole child as a global citizen. It supports the intellectual, aesthetic, physical, cultural and social needs of the student. This is achieved through learning that is identified to be engaging, relevant, challenging and significant.

The PYP acknowledges the importance of traditional subject areas such as languages, mathematics, the social sciences, arts and physical education. Also acknowledged as central to the PYP are the transdisciplinary (integrated across the subject areas) units of inquiry. These inquiries transcend the traditional subject boundaries, allowing students to explore the natural, real life connections that exist when engaged in authentic learning.

Students explore integrated six transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry per year.

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organise ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

By engaging in inquiry-based units throughout the year, students become:

  • Inquirers
  • Communicators
  • Thinkers
  • Risk-takers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Principled
  • Caring
  • Open-minded
  • Balanced
  • Reflective
