What is Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS)?

Before you begin reading, it is important to know if you or your child is eligible for AEIS.

PRIMARY LEVEL

There are two tests for Primary level: one test for Primary 2 / 3 admission and another for Primary 4 / 5 admission. Applicants should sit for the primary test appropriate for their age cohorts. The test level is shown below:

Age as at 1st Jan of the Year of Admission Test to Apply For Content Tested Possible Outcome
7 to 7+ Pri 2 / 3 Pri 1 Pri 2 or Pri 1 or unsuccessful
8 to 8+ Pri 2 / 3 Pri 2 Pri 3 or Pri 2 or Pri 1 or unsuccessful
9 to 9+ Pri 4 / 5 Pri 3 Pri 4 or Pri 3 or Pri 2 or unsuccessful

11 to 11+ Pri 4 / 5 Pri 4 Pri 5 or Pri 4 or unsuccessful

For instance, applicants who are 8 to 8+ and who sit for the Primary 2 / 3 test may be placed to Primary 3, Primary 2, Primary 1 or be found unsuccessful, depending on their performance in the test and their age. Applicants who are 10 to 10+ who sit for the Primary 4 / 5 test may be placed to Primary 5, Primary 4 or Primary 3 or be found unsuccessful, depending on their performance in the test and their age.

MOE does not recommend international students to be overage by more than two years above the age appropriate for that level.

The Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) is a centralised admissions exercise conducted by MOE around September or October each year for international students who wish to join our mainstream primary and secondary schools in January of the following year.

The AEIS consists of a centralised test on English and Mathematics that will assess the applicants’ English literacy, numeracy and reasoning abilities. Admission is not guaranteed, and is subject to the applicant’s performance in the test. If successful, placement will depend on available vacancies and the applicant’s declared residential area in Singapore.

International students seeking admission to our mainstream schools in Singapore should note that English is the medium of instruction and are strongly encouraged to prepare before sitting for the AEIS test. They should be familiar with the English and Mathematics syllabuses of the level preceding the one they are applying for.

Prepare for AEIS with the help of our tutors. We have a team of professional former MOE Teachers Tutors who can help you or your child
